@haha_123 - prepaid sim, should also ask your girl if she's on smart or globe, since text rates within the same carrier is much cheaper, as are calls. Or if you're a real cheap charlie, (like me), you can sign up for unlimited text or calls promos ,

smart

sports bars, like etsys said h&J at p burgos is probably the best place to hang out, there are a few more along p burgos as well which screen football matches. i wouldn't bet too much on the cable provided by the hotels, most of the time they are vastly limited. And FYI soccer isn't huge in the philippines, basketball is more their cuppa tea.

By the way, may I know roughly the taxi fare from the airport to the Malate area?

If you take the yellow airport taxi it is about 200-250 peso I think. If you energetic enough to walk outside the airport to take the white normal taxi it is 150+ I think

When I mean white, it is not the white limo van / SUV taxi which is a fixed price and cost lie 500+ I think.

May I know if I'll be able to watch BPL soccer matches; Man U vs Liverpool in my hotel? If not, is there any sports bar in Malate where I can watch the "LIVE" matches.

Also, may I know how much they charge for a pre-paid sim card, which I presume I can buy from seven-eleven. I reckoned I need to key in "0" before the phone number in order to contact to my gal, right?

Sorry for my "newbie" questions. Any advise is highly appreciated.
Thank you so much.

If you go by Cebu pacific and come out of T3, There is a SMART and GLOBE booth. The Globe SIM is P100 because there are 2 SIM card..it is the Balikbayan card or whatever. Top up is P300 and P500. When I went last week, there is a promo of P120 for 3 days unlimited 3G Internet which is a good deal to me. And for my 3 days there, I only topup P300 and it include the P120 internet charges. Cheap like lau sai man. hehe

bolsterposter: yes .. the same video .. but BBC / Starhub -> well, high Def :D

haha_123: Taxi - metered, go from 190 peso, from my last trip out .. sometimes I get friends to collect me, or if late night, and not in the mood - I get hotel pickup - well, especially if I am going there on company expense .. can set you back by 500 peso ..

Re: phillipines, manaila, makati

shucks, Manilaboy already replied the same :)

BTW, yellow taxis start a bit higher, think 80 peso ? vs - just think of it as Changi surcharge .. and even then, it is just less than 3 $ startup .. don't be stingy and walk wiht your bag to the main road to try to stop a passing taxi ..

Re: phillipines, manaila, makati

Thanks to bro etsys and manilaboy2007 for your valuable input. I guess I'll just take the yellow taxi for 200-250 pesos.

Last time in Makati, me and my friend complained to the taxi driver when he refuses to turn-on the meter. He just drove to the side of the road and let us alight without kicking a fuss. PEACE.;)

well, a lot of taxis now turn on meter .. if not, just tell them you will report to LTFRB

Oh, by the way, the other problem, if you are first timer, make sure you get loose change -or suddenly the driver will not have change even for 500 peso ..

it's quite easy to get the white taxi actually.

t1 = just take the lift to the 3rd floor (arrival) walk out and you should be able to flag a white taxi

t3 = take the escalator up 2 floors (arrival) exit at the other end, and you should usually see a waiting line of white taxis. try to get a taxi that has NOT been waiting however, as the ones waiting for a while tend to ask for flat rate.

t2 = not very familiar, i rarely take phil air, but if i recall, exit the building, walk up the stairs and you will be at arrival. should be able to flag down a white taxi there.

And yes, if they refuse to turn on the meter, just ask them to let you alight, and get another white taxi. i personally never had any issues getting a replacement taxi around the airport, due to the constant flow of traffic and nearby establishments.

How to say the following in Ph Language?

Good Morning = not sure, pang umaga?
Hello = hello or mabuhay
Thank you = salamat
Bye = palaam or just *wave :D

The video on the bus driving was nicely filmed. Used the topic of driving a bus in manila as an excuse to talk about the poor living conditions in the slums and ... pag pag. good reason NOT to buy food from the mobile trucks you see along makati... :(

PR goes to T2, and the last time I went, I don't remember it being a hassle ..

And note, there are taxis without meter - be careful -they are called 'hotel limo' and well, they charge flat rates .. they have the required approval etc.

personally, i would avoid saying those to a guy, even if he says kamusta .. (Hey buddy ?? ;) )

Don't make friends with strangers, unless it is needed .. read up the scammers all around there ..

You forgot the part of showing the support for RH Bill !!!

You should have seen the video of BBC about Guatemala .. they showed the rich of the country, working as volunteer Bomberos and also the middle class .. the English lady lived with both .. nice contrast ..

I'll be arriving at T1. With this kind of detailed direction, surely I can't miss.
Thanks bro.
