A Mystical Thai Story
This mystical incident happened many years back when I was holidaying in a village at Northern Thailand. Before I start, there are some myths that the villagers here believe in. I only can remember 3 at this moment.
1. When going into the jungle, must bring along a thai lime for protection against evil or accidents.
2. When going fishing in the nearby river, must not bring $$$ along. Otherwise you will come back empty-handed.
3. When in the jungle having meals, must put aside some food first for the jungle spirits before taking your meals.
Ok back to the story. When I was in this village, I always like to hang around my neighbour house for TCSS. I remembered that time was about 4-5 pm, our usual time to go to the wet market to buy some meat / vegetables to cook dinner. Suddenly a villager on a scooter stopped at my neighbour house and said aloud excitedly : " Found already !!! Found already !!! " Feeling puzzling, I asked my neighbour what actually happened and slowly he narrated the story to me..........
There was a villager from the same village who went into the jungle alone to look for wild mushrooms but went missing. He is in his late forties, single and is a mute. He came from a poor family, parents all passed away already due to illness and he stayed with his elder bro ( also single ) in a small hut. He loved going into the jungle to look for wild mushrooms / vegetables. On a good day, he can even sell some of it. But this time he did not return before sunset. His brother panicked and went to the village temple to ask the chief monk for help. In this temple there were many big loudspeakers fixed onto high towers for the monks or village chief to make announcements to the whole villagers. His bro wanted to use those high & loud speakers to help his bro to find his way back but alas his efforts were all in vain.
The next morning, his bro together with some neighbours & relatives all went into the jungle to look for him but they still couldnt find him. A few days later, a villager stumbled on his body on a river bank while looking for prawns. There was no injury / bites on his body and besides him was his unfinished meal. His location was also very near the village and according to my neighbour, that area was searched many times during that few days when he went missing but they swored that they actually didnt see anything lying on the riverbank !!!
So what actually happened to him ??? Did he lost his life just because he broke the number 3 myth which I mentioned above ??? If not, why the search party couldnt see him when they search that area so many times ??? I did not asked my neighbour about his opinion about this matter because I already know his answer but what about you ??? For me...... hmm.....I rather let it remain a mystical thai story.......end of story.......thanks for reading.
