That's why i say your "spy idea" is good (in fact better & more efficient too)....at least i now have another option to choose from.
For the spy cam i set up,it's not easy to disable unless they have my pw & can bypass the few security feature that was pre-installed. As for power outrage,i am sure you knew too that when you turn off your home router and modem,and turn them on later again,your internet connection still works right? Nowaday spy cam very high tech one,there is something call backup battery. Also if the primary network is down,they are able to tap into other source of network or the nearest next-available network just like a mobile phone or a comp. Of course that'd require one to have a good relationship with the "purchased house"'s neighbours. For me,i pay for my neighbour's network on the condition that they must keep it on for 24 hours. The more challenging part for me is to let the girl THINK that she already shuts the cam off,but in fact it isn't. If she manage to shuts it down,it also goes to show that she has something to hide.I am at least confident enough to say that the Queen size bed in the house only have my cums.
Most asia country's network isn't expensive,other than Aus,Japan and sillypore. At least the amount is only a small significant as compare to the girl's "monthly allowance". Perhaps i may sound overly confident,but still i doubt most girls or their friends is IT literate enough to shut down the security cam networking system completely.
The entire layout of security cam may sound & look very troublesome initially,but it's only a one time thing which will last for many years. And if my girl choose to run astray(or away) under such,i guess by me being so far away,i can do much about it.
