JAKARTA: A cargo aircraft carrying fuel, and other supplies from Trigana Air Service has skidded on the runway while landing at the Wamena airport in Papua on Tuesday (Sep 13) morning.
“There were no loss of lives, and the fuel load is also safe,” said Ahmad Bambang, Marketing Director for Pertamina to online news portal detik.com.
Mr Ahmad said the aircraft took off from Papua’s Sentani airport at about 6.55am local time.
The aircraft then failed to successfully land at Wamena airport and skidded on runway 33, which is about 2km from its original landing position.
The pilot, co-pilot and technician on board managed to escape, and firefighting teams then extinguished the fire from the aircraft, which suffered severe damage on its left engine.
The plane was carrying more than 14 tonnes of fuel, rice and sugar. Mr Ahmad said the cargo will be transferred to another aircraft so that the supplies can reach its destination.
