I do agree that communication is important. Misunderstanding tends to arise due to the lack of communication.
But, regarding the issue of staying outside, it is kind of hard to achieve because need to wait until your wife got her PR then can apply for subsided HDB flat unless you are able to buy on the re-sale market. Correct me if I'm wrong.
