let's be true and honest about it. how many vietnamese spouse in Singapore got to know their singaporean husband the `proper' way? Over half got to know their singaporean husbands while working in KTV or other night spots in Singapore. From ancient times till now, vice has always been looked down at. Its the easiest and faastest way to earn money. But let's take a look at their culture. For the gals from the Vietnamese villagers, they have little education and huge demands from their families. They have lazy fathers and brothers while the mothers are often demanding in money. So sending their young daughters to work in the sleezy bars in city is the only way to get more money. at the same time, if these gals are lucky, they will get to know `rich' foreigners, marry him and bring more money home. `OPEN LEG`' is National Service to these village Vietnamese gals. But to the chinese in Singapore, earning money thru vice is undesirable. So we cannot blame the locals for looking down on these gals, but for those who know the viet culture, we cannot blame these gals as they are trying to bring more money home.
The next area to look at is the singaporean husband of these viet spouse. Most of these viet spouse marry low income and lowly educated Singaporean man who can barely feed themselves. These Singaporean man either got their viet spouse thru marriage agents or thru night spots. In order to make these gals stay longer, these singapore man prefer to make these gals pregnant, thinking children will tie these gals down. But financial woes often break up these marriages. the lies told by these singapore husbands will unwrapped after some time and these viet gals will feel cheated. No PR, no house, no car, no cash..... etc, after sometime, these gals will give up on these marriages.
Bad press reports on Vietnamese coming to Singapore to commit crimes are often on singapore papers. This gives the general public the negative impression of vietnamese. But earning a living thru crime is no big deal to the common vietnamese. Its their way of survival. Sometimes, we ought to respect them for their survival skills, these skills are not what normal singaporeans possess.
There's always 2 sides of the coin. We cannot blame singaporeans but at the same time, we got to respect vietnamese for their survival skills. It just depend on what view do you side with.
