Suspected peeping tom arrested at NTU dormitory; 66 videos of male students showering

SINGAPORE - A peeping tom was caught filming a resident at a student dormitory at the Nanyang Technological University (NTU) on Thursday (Oct 13).

The fourth-year student from Hall of Residence 16 was nabbed by students after he was spotted filming a resident in the shower.

The resident saw a smartphone above the cubicle wall while he was bathing at 1am.

He rushed out to confront the suspected peeping tom, who locked himself into a cubicle, school newspaper The Nanyang Chronicle reported.

The resident, who did not want to be named, then called for help and a few hall residents caught hold of the suspect when he came out of the cubicle.

The students went through the alleged voyeur's smartphone, and found 66 videos of male students showering saved in his phone.

The suspect tried to delete the videos while hiding in the cubicle, but they were found in a folder of recently deleted items, the Chronicle said.

Mr Paul Lee, Hall 16 student president, called campus security, who reported the matter to the police.

NTU peeping tom banned from staying in campus dormitories; may face disciplinary action



SINGAPORE - A Nanyang Technological University (NTU) student who was caught taking videos of his fellow hostel mates in the shower has been banned from staying in campus dormitories.

"The student is no longer a resident at the hall and has been barred from hall accommodation for the rest of his period of study," a spokesman from NTU said.

The student may also face disciplinary action depending on the outcome of the police investigation, NTU added.


The fourth-year student from Hall of Residence 16 was nabbed in the act on Oct 13.

A resident who was showering spotted a smartphone above the cubicle while he was showering at about 1am.

A few hall residents nabbed the peeping tom, who was handed over to the police. There were allegedly 66 videos of male students showering saved in the suspect's phone.

This was the second case of voyeurism reported at Hall 16 this year.

The spokesman said that the university expects all students in the halls to "have respect for their fellow students".

"Security is the responsibility of all members of the university community, and students have been advised to be vigilant and to look out for each other's safety," he added.

Man jailed for upskirt offences

A former army regular was jailed for four weeks yesterday for taking upskirt videos of several women and fined $3,200 for having uncensored films.

Teo Kok Peng, 30, had admitted to two charges of insulting the modesty of a woman and having 32 films without a valid certificate at his flat in Bukit Batok East Avenue 5 in 2014. Five other offences of insulting the modesty of women were considered in sentencing.

Investigations showed that Teo, who was a military expert at Nee Soon Camp, committed the offence on his way home on May 16, 2014.

After alighting from a train at Serangoon MRT station, he saw a woman in a white dress and decided to take an upskirt video of her.

He turned on his mobile phone's video function and slipped the phone beneath the woman's skirt. He followed her to the escalator before stopping the recording.

He then got into a Circle Line train travelling from Serangoon station to Buona Vista station and while on the train, took an upskirt video of another woman.

He was caught by a member of the public when he tried to repeat his actions a third time at Buona Vista station.
