The Age of Innocence

It was the first day of my faculty's camp. Ever since I started my National Service, this was the moment that I have been waiting for. I have had two years of "sausage fest", and it was certainly a breath of fresh air to meet new girls again.

Oh wait, I forgot to introduce myself. I was then an incoming freshmen to one of the elite faculties in a local university, and I had previously served as a Signal Officer during my NS days. I won't say that I am perfect, but I am pretty sure there are many guys out there who want to be in my position. I come from a reasonably well-to-do family, lives in a nice house, and drives a BMW M235i. I think I have a reasonable dress sense, and some of my friends have commented that I do look a little like Bosco Wong. I'd probably take the latter with a healthy pinch of salt.

Well, I had digressed a little too much. When I first reached the auditorium where we were supposed to congregate, I started to look around for my Orientation Group (OG). It wasn't that difficult, thankfully, with the OG Flags being conspicuously placed. I slowly made my way towards my OG.

I found myself seated next to this gorgeous, but slightly classy looking girl. Of course, it was certainly not by chance. Based on the Whatsapp Group that my OG Leader had created, I started to do some "groundwork" to look out for some of the better looking girls. Lindsay - the girl whom I had sat beside - was one of the girls that had caught my attention. A little background check shows that she was previously from a top local JC, and better still - she is unattached!

Me: Hey, you are early!
Lindsay: Hey! Well, that makes us two

We started making small conversations as we waited for the other people to stream in. I was immediately charmed by her - not just her looks, but her intellectual capabilities as well. She shared about how she ended up choosing this faculty, as well as her interests. That was then when I realised that we had quite a fair bit in common. Things are looking good!

Before we could continue further, the head of the camp demanded some attention and began sharing the itinerary for the next few days. Obviously I was not paying attention. My mind was adrift, and I was already making plans on how I can get closer to Lindsay...

Once the briefings were over, we started to move out of the auditorium with our OGs. Me and Lindsay walked together, since we had conversed previously and we were more comfortable with each other.

The first few orientation games were rather boring. We had some lame games such as musical chairs and wacko. It was uneventful, to say the least. But that had allowed me some opportunity to talk to Lindsay, and I must say that she had really caught my attention.

Subsequently, it was lunch time. Me and Lindsay sat together and continued our chatter. Of course, the fact that both of us were closed to one another did no go unnoticed by our OG mates and OGLs.

OGL Keith: Eh, don't think we don't know ah, you two have been talking to each other since the start of the camp!
OG Mates: Oooooh! ~

We became a target for teases, but it seems like both of us were completely unfazed and okay with it. It was all well, until we had to do a forfeit for losing a mini game.

OGL Keith: Since you two like each other right, shall we make T and Lindsay do a forfeit together?
OG Mates: Yessssss!
OGL Keith: What shall we make them do?
OGL Joyce: How about push-ups?

Fuck! I had dreaded that. Yes, I would love to be in compromising position with Lindsay, but this was too early for that. For the first time, I could see that Lindsay was a little shy. However, under the pressure of our OGLs and OG mates, we succumbed to it.

The forfeit was not that tough for me. It was easy doing the push ups, even though things were a little awkward with Lindsay lying under me. Taunts and shouts of "Closer! Lower!" were echoing, although I really could not give two fucks about it. After I had completed my 20 push-ups, we had to switch position and it was Lindsay's turn to do it. It was all well until the 12th push-up, when she had suddenly slipped and landed on me. Unsurprisingly, everyone who surrounded us cheered. I could feel that we are both turning red.

Lindsay was dazed, but she immediately regained composure and got off me.

Lindsay: That was embarrassing!
Me: Haha, blame your weak arms! :P
Lindsay: Tsk!

Several other games came and went, and before we knew it, the first day of the camp was over.

Me: Hey Lindsay, I was wondering, erm, can I buy you dinner? As a form of apology.
Lindsay: Apology for what?
Me: For what happened just now.
Lindsay: I wouldn't turn down a free dinner, so ok!

We started walking towards car park to pick up my BMW. Little did I know that this is the start of an interesting and unforgettable journey in my life as a university student...
