AFA needs your HELP not condemnation!!!

Very goddamned disappointed that there are bros who wanna heap misery on AFA when the bad news that 5 of its volunteers contracted HIV

I did help out with some of their activities and also went to get tested for HIV there many times, I would like to express my appreciation for this selfless organization which tries to stem the tide of transmission about this deadly virus in Singapore. If everyone was to adopted a FUCKED UP, TAKE IT FOR GRANTED ATTITUDE we will lose this battle against HIV. Some members are gay but HIV affects any gender, be it gay or straight volunteers, we must appreciate the fact that they have scarficed time and effort to help society.

Action for Aids

Please read the link abv and if possible donate a small amt to them, I think they are as equally deserving or more deserving compared to NKF, etc. For us cheongsters, they provide HIV testing and counselling. Frankly if they did not provide this service I do believe a lot of us willl not step forward to be tested.

Hi Bro Bongster, sorry I did not meant to condemn the dedicated volunteers. I was just curious and missed the Sunday's New Paper. I too went there for my test and I must say they the volunteers are dedicated and professional. The zapping created a reversed attention to the topics and 200+ have read it. If no reversed publicity the thread will die a natural death. After reading what you said make sense and again sorry to you as you have once being a volunteer yourself no malice whatsoever.

altho the next time the thot is sure to cross my mind if the afa guy taking my blood sample is hiv+,but i will not discriminate and will thank him for his good work

Bro bongster..I must say that Singapore is doin very well in this area.
I m from KL..I have yet to hear a place similar to AFA.

pls remember that this people are working for good cause... if without them there will be no HIV at such each and fast rate... so credit to them...
so long they dont work when they are founded HIV postiive.

Knn i dont see the governement so active when it come to really non -profitable job....... but when come to N$K.. wowkao.. they so actively support it...Kaoz.

I fully agreed that AFA is doing a fantastic job in SG. With my personal experience in HIV testing with Govt and AFA, I must say the counsellor of AFA is more approachable or should I say, pragmatic towards the risk and consequences. He highlighted the cost and why we should not fuck around in these days (unlike our fathers' days) whereas the one in Govt Clinic seems "clinical" and less friendly.

We should be sympathised with these people (the +ve volunteers). During my last recent check up, I see people (guys & girls) who you think are straight professionals, good students etc type coming for HIV test. This is unlike in those days (abt 4 to 5 yrs back), I see mainly uncles. The point is: We are probably more open in handling relationship and temptation is always there (commercial or non-commercial ) and as human being, we may have in a point of time, let passion or lust take over our mind. And Ofcourse, in these days, you dont neccessary get it only from commercial sex.

Even now, I still remember the pragmatic consequence spelled out by the AFA counseller whenever I am tempted. Therefore, AFA, thanks for giving this alternative channel and keep up with the preventive education work and let individual decide.

Agreed, i feel that AfA needs more help from the government. Looking at the recent "you know what" saga...the government does not seem so strongly condemning it. But when it was rumoured that AfA volunteers got involved with the patients, see our SMOS of MOH say must investigate. Pls, AfA is doing a very critical role in the prevention and counselling of HIV / Aids. They should not be condemned...rather support should be given. I don't see the government asking people to donate to AfA...instead ask people to continue supporting "you know who". So they should not be surprised at the increasing HIV figures...the AfA is not receiving the support if needs!!! Ok, better not go too off track, wait kenna zapped for not being on topic.

BTW, went to DSC yesterday for some consultation...seems that the AfA has extended its testing and counselling sessions to another day. Dun know which day sorry. Maybe, you guys whom are interested can e-mail [email protected] or [email protected].

Hello All

Looking at the posts here, it appears AFA might have HIV+ volunteers in its midst. I hope these volunteers are not involved in the administering of blood tests at AFA's thrice-weekly anonymous testing centre. That would be downright shameful.

I mus sae that volunteers at AFA are relli fantastics people. Singaporeans usually discriminate and siam the topic HIV and other STDs. These people are the ones who didn't show any discrimination against the people who went there for the tests. Me too, went there many times for Anonymous testings. They give good advice and counselling and they are relli helpful and patient. Nvm that there are possibilities of some volunteers being down with HIV, but we shdnt discriminate against them too.

Overall, AFA have done a good job toward helping those at risks and conveying information. Think they lack money to reach to more.
