Expect Circle Line delays for the 4th straight day: LTA, SMRT
Published 2 hours ago Annabeth Leow SINGAPORE - Travel on the Circle Line will continue to be disrupted, even as the Land Transport Authority (LTA) and rail operator SMRT are "working round the clock" to fix the signalling faults that have left commuters complaining since Monday (Aug 29). In a joint statement on Thursday (Sept 1) morning, LTA and SMRT said that they are working with a team from train manufacturer Alstom but their hands are tied by the inability to conduct trackside checks and examine equipment while the line is running. This can only be done after operating hours, the statement said. At 6.56am on Thursday, SMRT tweeted that commuters should expect "longer dwell times at stations" before trains move off from the platform. SMRT and LTA also advised commuters to plan ahead for longer journeys in order to arrive at their destinations punctually. In the meantime, they say that more staff will be deployed at stations and on trains in case commuters want to find an alternative mode of transport and need help. continue reading here : http://www.straitstimes.com/singapor...t-day-lta-smrt

Delays expected as signalling issues plague Circle Line for 4th straight day
Posted 01 Sep 2016 07:06 Updated 01 Sep 2016 08:54 SINGAPORE: Commuters were told to expect delays as signalling problems continued to plague the Circle Line for the fourth day in a row, according to a news release issued by the Land Transport Authority (LTA) and SMRT early on Thursday (Sep 1). Commuters should factor in extra travel time to get to their appointments on time, the release said. "We have narrowed the problem to signal interference, causing intermittent loss of signal between trains and stations," LTA and SMRT said, adding that they are working with a team of experts from train manufacturer Alstom to resolve the issue. "We are working round the clock to restore service levels. However, as the CCL runs underground, trackside checks and physical interventions can only take place after operating hours although backend system checks are being conducted throughout daylight hours." SMRT’s Operations Control Centre is being “manned closely” and additional staff have been deployed on trains, the release said. More staff will also be deployed at stations to redirect passengers seeking alternative travel options. continue reading here : http://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/...s/3090912.html

Also can complain to CASE . Don't know whether commuters can sue SMRT or not ? Commuters should also boycott Circle Line for 1 week .

Mystery deepens over Circle Line snag
PublishedSep 1, 2016, 5:00 am SGT Christopher Tan Senior Transport Correspondent Something in the Circle Line tunnels is interfering with signalling communication between trains and track, and operator SMRT and the Land Transport Authority (LTA) have yet to determine exactly what it is. The problem, unheard of since the driverless line fully opened five years ago, has caused slower trains and longer waits since Monday. On Tuesday, SMRT said the fault had to do with intermittent loss of wireless communication between the signalling equipment on the trains and signalling equipment on the track. Pressed for more information, SMRT and the LTA issued a joint statement yesterday saying that there was "possible signal interference in (the) tunnels". But neither could say what sort of interference it was or what was causing it. The Straits Times understands that the glitch - which one senior SMRT engineer described as a "phenomenon" - could be related to a software issue or caused by interference from telecommunication equipment. The system underwent a software upgrade recently. Suspecting that might be the cause, the operator uninstalled new software but the fault persisted. What is befuddling SMRT engineers further is that the loss of signalling communication is intermittent. When a train loses communication, it applies emergency braking as a safety precaution. This has caused journeys to be not only longer, but also jerkier. System software experts from French contractor Alstom, which supplied the signalling system, are due to arrive soon to look into the glitch. Going by the slew of public tweets, some trains may also be bypassing stations. Ardawan Izadi said he caught a train on Tuesday which had to reverse when it missed a stop. Mohan Mahapatra posted: "Today's train forgot to stop at Holland Village station." According to sources, SMRT is now manning the driverless system. In some situations, the trains are driven manually at speeds as low as 18kmh to the next nearest station so that the signalling system can be "reset". continue reading here : http://www.straitstimes.com/singapor...rcle-line-snag
