The problem is the media dare not to ask such questions . Everyone else know who is responsible . But dare not speak out . All late for work ; late for school ; late for appointments really causing a lot of lost productivity .

Senior Transport Correspondent

SINGAPORE - Rail operator SMRT Corp and regulator Land Transport Authority (LTA) are deciding what to do with the problematic Bukit Panjang LRT, including scrapping the system altogether.

In a company blog, SMRT Trains managing director Lee Ling Wee said a joint team is reviewing the future of the system with a view to giving it a major overhaul.

"It will be more than just a makeover," Mr Lee wrote, adding that the 17-year-old system is near "the end of its design life".

He said there are three options on the table.

A fussy LRT system in need of overhaul

One, to deploy self-powered autonomous guided vehicle on the existing viaduct.

Two, build a new LRT system with significant design enhancements in key infrastructures such as power supply, signalling, rolling stock, tracks and stations.

Three, to renew the existing Bombardier system with a more updated signalling system - allowing trains to be tracked more accurately, and to ply at a higher frequency.

Why no option to sack CEO Desmond Kuek and his rail management team huh ? Really beuy pai seh one .
Kanina cannot solve problem only have to replace system.

More effective to replace guniang Khaw or the whole government lah, like that solve the country's problem

You are wrong!!!!
It's not dare not ask. It's don't wan to ask.

'Dare not' means they know somethings wrong but gutless to do anything.

But This cb media will defend garbagement.
When they run out of excuses n cannot defend them anymore, they'll b garbagements hatchet man to fix all dissenters. Spore is doomed with these cb.

If these cb say mildly mmmm maybe garbagement should explain itself how they made the wrong decision, garbagement will completely freak out n isa the reporter

Massive waste to take down BPLRT system: Experts

By Tan Weizhen

Published: 4:00 AM, October 7, 2016

Updated: 5:26 AM, October 7, 2016

SINGAPORE — Doing away with the Bukit Panjang Light Rail Transit (BPLRT) system would be a massive waste, transport experts said in response to a review of the rail network by the authorities, as they called for solutions that would use existing infrastructure instead.

They also pointed out that the S$285 million LRT network was doomed from the start for two main reasons.

One, unlike the LRT systems in the newer housing estates of Sengkang and Punggol, the network’s design was not integrated with the town’s plans.

Two, using a proprietary system such as the driverless Bombardier technology meant that options to upgrade the system were limited.

Looking at the options that rail operator SMRT proposed, Professor Lee Der Horng, a transport analyst, said that using autonomous, guided vehicles that run on the existing viaduct would be the most feasible one because it may not require a central control system, which would then reduce overheads.

Transport consultant Tham Chen Munn agreed, pointing out that this particular option would make use of existing infrastructure, with modifications to be made only where needed.

However, both had an issue with the BPLRT’s short life cycle, now that the light rail is nearing the end of its 20-year design lifespan.

Again lack of proper maintenance regime is the main issue .

Who say not ? He did not improve the performance of the BPLRT when he could have done so . Now he is waiting for the LTA to complete the transfer of it assets and he wash his hands off .

SBS, SMRT make submissions to PTC for MRT fare review

By Wong Pei Ting

Published: 6:15 PM, October 7, 2016

Updated: 6:35 PM, October 7, 2016

SINGAPORE – Both train operators SMRT and SBS Transit have made submissions to the Public Transport Council (PTC) in the latest fare review exercise, which could see public transport fares slashed by as much as 5.7 per cent next year.

The exercise concluded on Friday evening (Oct 7). When asked if they had applied to raise or lower fares, both SMRT and SBS declined to comment.

A PTC spokesman confirmed that submissions were received from both companies, and added that PTC will “evaluate them carefully”. Asked for details, the spokesman said it is “premature to comment on the applications at this juncture”.

The PTC will announce its decision on the fare adjustment before the end of the year.

Bus operators weren’t required to apply to the PTC for the approval of fares as the public bus industry is transiting to the bus contracting model.

Based on the fare formula PTC uses — which is pegged to changes in the Core Consumer Price Index, the Wage Index and the Energy Index over the preceding year — PTC had said in September that “the maximum allowable fare adjustment is -5.7 per cent”.

Definitely these 2 companies sure to ask for a fare increase . No need to ask them . It is so obvious . Don't know what the reporter is thinking ? Now lets see if whether PTC will reject their request and instead reduce the fares .
