Re: Liverpool Fc @ Anfield - Reds Supporters Gatherings

First half was bad, but it was ALL of our own making

As soon as we upped the pace, oh and we have a player like Mac Allister to come on, the game changed

Thought Diaz was excellent in the 2nd half

Superb penalties by Mo, both of them in the opposite top corners. You’ve still got to bury them, plenty of top strikers have been poor at penalties in the past, but thankfully not Salah

Credit to Slot for making the right subs and changing some tactics in the 2nd half

However, apart from that Plymouth game where most of the team were pretty awful, I can’t see why Chiesa is getting no minutes He’s been far from terrible on the odd occasion he has got some minutes. Even after Southampton had an extra concussion sub in the 1st half, so we got an additional sub too (interesting rule which i was not aware of till now), Chiesa still could not get on the pitch

Anyways, this win ensures we have a minimum of a 10 point gap going into our final 9 PL games

By the way, yesterday was the first time in Liverpool history that we made 6 substitutions in a match when we subbed out TAA.

Will we see Man U take points off Arsenal? Hard to see it after Arsenal won 7-1 away at PSV but the match is at Old Trafford after all. Arsenal doesn't need to rotate their squad for the 2nd leg of their CL tie

I thought maximum sub was 5?

Arsenal draw and now Liverpool only need 5 W from 9 matches left.

Liverpool next 5 PL matches with 3 home games are winnable.

Southampton player had a concussion. So Southampton used the concussion substitution option. 5 normal substitutions plus 1 concussion substitute. As a result, Liverpool can make 6 substitutions for this match. Even Mo Salah got confused. Salah was trying to stop the 6th substitution by informing the referee

We don't need 5 wins because Arsenal will not get full points from their remaining matches. They face Chelsea this weekend. Arsenal had 8 points out of 15 possible points from their last 5 matches. We have 14 out of 15 points from our last 5 matches. Arsenal fans are helping us by playing mind games with their own club.

Well, well, well...what a difference 24 hours can make

Very happy to say that after the weekend we now have a minimum of a 12 point gap going into our final 9 PL games

Compliments to Roy Keane for speaking facts when he said "you cannot win the title with 10 draws"

Also great to see Arteta running away from an interviewer post match when asked about the title race last night, literally 'dead man walking' or running I should say, lol

As for that piece of shit Gary Neville, I do hope he has to commentate on whichever game clinches the title for us, I want him to suffer Gather last night he said Arsenal has been the best team in the league for 2 thirds of the pitch...heard it all now

Finally must say the Top 5 PL race is looking really good this season and I say this with respect and not in jest

Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville appeared to have reached a similar conclusion after the full-time whistle: “They’ve got this title. This title’s in their hands.

“At the end there, you’re thinking when it’s 1-1, they’ve not just got one hand on the trophy; the ribbons and the colours are being changed as we speak, and the engraver’s actually started to put the first ‘L’ on the trophy, which is a painful thought!”

Re: Liverpool Fc @ Anfield - Reds Supporters Gatherings

Tomorrow's match is shaping up to be quite exciting. Our smash and grab victory has dented oil tycoon PSG's ego. They rested 8 key players during their weekend match and yet still won 4-1 away at Rennes. They will be out for revenge.

Guys, remember there is no such thing as away goal advantage in CL anymore. The way I see it, PSG has 2 weaknesses. Firstly, their centreback Marquinhos can be bullied. He's not as strong on the ball as Nunez... which is how Harvey Elliot managed to score. Secondly, as they dominate their league, fitness wise they can be lacking from the 70th minute onwards. Normally by this time they are coasting to victory. In the last match, I saw quite a few players running out of gas by this time. If we score the first goal... mentally it will be hard for them to come back.

Hold out the first 15 minutes when they are going all out. Look for the sucker punch during our counter attack. During the last 20 minutes (plus any extra time), send in our substitutes to whack their lack of fitness. Their stadium design is also very different from Anfield. The spectators are seated quite far away. It will be interesting to see how their star players respond to verbal abuse from our Scouse fans.

Tomorrow game will be perfect for counterattack.

So not so worried. Game was ripe for picking.

Strikers will need to sharp. Dead ball situation will be potent.

I won't start Jota in the middle. He doesn't have the pace or upper body strength for counter attack. I will start Nunez and tell him to run. To push against the centrebacks, to track back and pressure their midfield. Nunez has a high work rate. Just that he misses simple chances and then scores the harder goals. Then I will sub in Jota in the 65th min onwards to wriggle through the half spaces.

I suspect... seriously suspect... Gakpo is fit enough to start against Southampton. It's just that Arne Slot is saving him for the return leg against PSG. Didn't even name him on the bench against Southampton. If Gakpo starts on the left wing, PSG is in for a nightmare.

Well lost on penalty and ran out of luck.

Slot played too conservatively or the players played poorly.

Anfield magic used up.

Anyway now can concentrate on PL title with lesser games.

Re: Liverpool Fc @ Anfield - Reds Supporters Gatherings

we ran out of legs. Most of our starting 11 are so tired. Gravenbech, McAllister and Szobozlai needs rest. Otherwise can be easily injured when they are overworked. VVD is a joker. He won the toss and decide not to attack the Kop in the 2nd half. That's the magic of Anfield right? When opponents are tired and they have 18,000 fans screaming at them.

At least we will finish the league strongly now. Salah has 10 more games in our jersey. 10 more games to set whatever records he wishes to. 10 more games for VVD and TAA too.

Slot may have wanted to sub in Kelleher for the penalty shootout but random injuries to TAA and Konate's cramp used up our sub allocation.

Re: Liverpool Fc @ Anfield - Reds Supporters Gatherings

If you ever needed a game to demonstrate how hard Salah has carried our attack this season, that was it. Without him providing magic, we have absolutely nothing up at the top.

Jota. The lack of quality in literally everything he does in possession is stark. Diaz as ever works his socks off but as ever also has zero end product. Nunez is Nunez.

Gakpo is the one who gets a pass as he was just coming back from injury and looked like he had just played 100 minutes from the moment he got on the pitch. He couldn't even sprint back to help defend - should never have been in the squad. That's on Slot who'd rather play a clearly unfit Gakpo than use Chiesa.

I think the midfield and defense were fine last night. Mix up for the goal but that's when you need your attack to go and bail you out the other end and they didn't.

As for the penalties. Donnarumma had won 5 of his 6 penalty shootouts (now 6 from 7). We were never winning the tie once it went to penalties, more so with the likes of Trent, Dom & Mac off.

Disappointed but guess we just have to dust ourselves off and go again on Sunday at Wembley. Going to be another tough one though, as I think Trent maybe done for the season going by they way he turned his ankle jumping in, sadly might even have been his last time wearing a Reds jersey. Konate also looks to be out for Sunday as well.

Lost in the negativity of losing but big shout out to Quansah coming on for Trent - almost scored twice as well.

Re: Liverpool Fc @ Anfield - Reds Supporters Gatherings

Sorry guys, but have another one to get off my chest

The Champions League is tough to win.

Ferguson only won it twice in 27 years and it look him 13 years to win it.
Wenger never won it and only reached one final.
Mourinho failed to even get to a final with Chelsea despite all the money spent.
Klopp won one but our generational team in 2020 still went out in the round of 16.
It took Pep 7 years and over a billion pounds to win it with Man City.

So all in I'd say it's still been an amazing season for us, assuming we win the PL

Also must say I am very impressed with this current PSG team. Not only technically skillful but also athletically strong. Repeat what I said about them in an earlier post above - they are CL contenders this season.

Klopp qualified for 3 finals. Mo Salah dislocated shoulder final - Karius error, the final we won, the final where our fans were locked outside by riot police. Even though we only won 1 CL in his time, he has generated a lot of money for our club.

This PSG team is what happens when you build a team versus having a team of supporting actors with a few superstars like Messi, Neymar, Mbappe. Thankfully for us, Salah/Mane doesn't act like superstars. They will track back to defend too.

I also have something I wish to say. I hope no one blames Nunez and Curtis Jones for missing their penalties. It happens and we should stand behind them as a team. Some commentators ask why established penalty takers like VVD didn't step up to take the 2nd and 3rd penalty. Clutching at straws lah. VVD ran 120 minutes and it's right that Arne Slot like those with fresher legs (those that was substituted in later) take the penalties.

Looks like this Carabao Cup final is about which team can handle injuries better. Newcastle is also badly affected by injuries and suspension. They had a week of rest while we need to recover from our 120 minutes match against PSG.

Konate is expected to recover. As for TAA, we may have seen him play the last game for us. His injury is particularly worrying because he recovered from an injury not long ago. But Bradley's injury meant he had to play 5 consecutive full matches. Then he lunged forward for a tackle that didn't come into contact with anyone else and got injured. That's normally a bad sign of overstretched or torn muscle/ligament.
