The behaviour of many in this forum has certainly reinforced my view that the country has sunk to new lows.

Fortunately, you do not see what goes on behind the scenes on a daily basis. The amount of dishonesty, deceit, scams and general manipulation of the system to gain some sort of advantage has to witnessed to be believed.

I still beg to differ on the second point. I wonder whether your notice that the government is only getting close to 70% of the votes during a general election. It is just that democracy indicates that majority wins.

Sad to know that many fellow Samsters have lead you to the third conclusion.

On your last point, I must say that I have to see/learn for myself to believe.

Please do keep the forum going, just remember that the conscientious fellow citizens of the country might be in the minority, but they still enjoy the forum and still are trying hard to keep the forum alive.

If the 70% vote came about as a result of a democratic process, I would have no quarrel with anyone. However, we all know that the system is manipulated in various ways to achieve this result and the greed and of the electorate plays a major part in the end result.

I personally know more than one singaporean who hated the govt to the core but voted for the PAP in 1996 because he felt that he would gain financially if his constituency passed from WP to PAP hands. Thankfully, more than 50% in his ward stuck to their principles. Sadly there aren't enough of this sort around anymore.

Yes, i love the place, stayed in VIC mostly, have 7 offices in that continent now, love the air, weather but there's something i really do not miss.
That's being a second class migrant no matter how successful or rich you are.
The filth there cant be seen here, the crime there cant exist here, the reliance of the DOLE sys etc, yeah that's for freedom.
But if you use a percentage of people living in relative comfort, think sinkapore is still better.

The point that I am trying to get at, is that there are still 30% of more of Singaporeans who disagree with the ruling party.

As for your second point, well it is a fact of like, unfortunately, there are many turn-coats who change due to financial or other gains. We have seen that in elections in other big and demoncratic countries else where recently.

I do not know which generation that you are in? But, speaking for myself, I was born when Singapore was still under the British rules. In my humble ways, I have witnessed the transformation of Singapore to what she is today. I tend to put things on the balance. The government has indeed done somethings good for the country. One tend to think critically about the country politics when he or she has adequate means to survive. To this end, I think, even though the country is not perfect, it did and it does provide what one needs to survive in Singapore.

It is unfortunate that there is never fairness anywhere in this world. Like we have read in "Animal Farm", they are fair, but some are fairer.

In a society when the going up of the social ladder depends solely on merit, it will become a pressure cooker. I am afraid we are now in this situation. But again, it happens not only n our country.

This second class citizen thing is all part of your imagination. I have never been treated any differently. In fact, that's what puts Singaporeans off.. that is the price to pay for being a developed country, IMO, singaporeans developed the kiasuism as the pace of the society is so fast that if you dun catch up, you will be drop out, not the sillyporean fault though, it just human nature, as the pace of australia is generally slower, thus giving you the feel that singaporeans sucks, but there are always exception, though maybe less visible, maybe just your luck that you never met one before, but that doesn't mean that this little island is that lousy......

Talking about crude, you oso have your fair share of giving crude comments and giving sacarstics remarks, that maybe reflect that you as a singaporean aren't that perfect too.... so maybe it's time to look at the 3 fingers pointing at yourself rather than the 1 finger pointing at others.....

Although I'm only in my late 20s, I think I've experienced enough of life inside and outside of Singapore to reach the conclusion that there's no perfect country in this world, and every country has its own serious flaws...

Heaven/Paradise is certainly NOT a place on earth...

I confess that my faith is very weak, but I would like to believe in God and Heaven, and I still have some hope to die and go to Heaven one day, although I certainly don't deserve it because of my sins...

In any case, since my mid-20s, I've resigned myself to spending the remainder of my life living and dying in Singapore as I think I would be able to manage my life better in Singapore than in any other country in this world, simply because I was born and brought up in Singapore for most of my life, and Singlish is my native tongue...

In English-speaking countries outside Singapore, although I think and speak naturally in English, my HEART is still East Asian and I still prefer East Asian food, so I think that's why I decided to return to live in Singapore...

Although there are many unpleasant things, to say the least, in Singapore, I'm able to handle the suffering...

But once again, in any case, I have to die one day sooner or later, so I don't think it matters much where I die...
