![]() Before you say that the citizens cannot be held responsible for the behaviour of the govt, may I point out that the whole country is collectively responsible for allowing the govt to hijack the nation by doing nothing when injustices are perpetuated and for accepting state sanctioned bribes in exchange for votes. The behaviour of many in this forum has certainly reinforced my view that the country has sunk to new lows. ![]() Fortunately, you do not see what goes on behind the scenes on a daily basis. The amount of dishonesty, deceit, scams and general manipulation of the system to gain some sort of advantage has to witnessed to be believed.

fuck up, Slang. a. to bungle or botch; ruin. b. to act stupidly or carelessly; cause trouble; mess up. plus it could be just a figure of speech... i believe he didn't mean to imply that every singaporean is a big time charlie.....and i am sure you get the general gist of his point. Cheers! ![]() |

I am glad to learn that your opinion about our country is not due to this incident. I still beg to differ on the second point. I wonder whether your notice that the government is only getting close to 70% of the votes during a general election. It is just that democracy indicates that majority wins. Sad to know that many fellow Samsters have lead you to the third conclusion. On your last point, I must say that I have to see/learn for myself to believe. Please do keep the forum going, just remember that the conscientious fellow citizens of the country might be in the minority, but they still enjoy the forum and still are trying hard to keep the forum alive. My 2 cent worth.

I personally know more than one singaporean who hated the govt to the core but voted for the PAP in 1996 because he felt that he would gain financially if his constituency passed from WP to PAP hands. Thankfully, more than 50% in his ward stuck to their principles. Sadly there aren't enough of this sort around anymore. ![]()

Re: Fuck you Sam
Sg a fuckup country...nobody know how to say thank u anymore
Every where any country is t same not only in SG ..its humans n how they mix ard n to each their own way of growing up...SG is a very small country so u hv more chances to see most of them but not all of them. r likewise... U think Australian r better they r more friendly by calling u mic... wait till they discriminate u Asian for hard working n taking up most of their jobs. Do u agree Japanese r t most civilized n polite humans not to mention they bow to each expect.....If there any diff they will show their ugly side too if u dare approach those youngers beng or punks in t corner n try give them a piece of advice for no smoking.....not to mention Jukuza gangsters They r in a bigger country n more room to move ard n u tent to see lease of t ugly lots By giving t above remark u r pin point all SGrean which show u r not better then them n u r very sallow n narrow minded SG is a developed country as so most of SGrean trying very hard to out perform each other so as to get more n catches up w better living lifes style...end up we show lase concern n emotion n more self centre n selfish....SAD There r still a lot of beautiful , nice n selfless angels ard...mostly r t ave n below ave income kind souls tat contribute n helping those poor n unfortunate in their own silences way...u do heard tat once or more of those story dont we ? Dum used a bamboo to overturn t whole boat of people WE see n learn thru others to enriched one self by good or bad... its a way of growing n mature I always try my very best to say thank u n sorry all t time..... If others show diff n bad attitude which i cant change them...well i just smile to myself n move on as we cant make everyone agree n happy Dum ask wat t society did for u but ask wat hv u contributed OFF Topic treats Ijust joined as a newbie not long ago I participate in Children Problem treat just to point down some exp tots to bro...got zap of couse. As 1 bro got zapped n mention if it a off topic treats then cant u delete it rather then more bro fall in n get zapped..wo knowing its off topic . How abt those bros who come into 1 treats n start to communicate non stop nothing related to t treat. They just try jio each other to go gathering for drinks or hv dinner n try praise each other to carry one's balls It can go on n on for pages.... Aint they off topic ??????? So Sam Boss aint they off topic n WHERE DO U DRAW THE OB LINE ??? PTS not important Now i m very discouraging but learned to take it easy n dum borther abt pts u mention pts not important n dum mean anything ...why u name it REPUTATION pts ??? Often n common we can see remarks CTC ONLY GIVEN TO BRO W REP PTS MORE THAN xx PTS N W 1 FR...SO wat does it reflect ???? How abt newbies ???? Not tits a free forms to shares n exchanges...????? ![]() If there is a pts sys n w ups n zaps pts by member bros .... tat mean tats reward n punishment n PTS DO MATTER AS U GET POWER Not going to b a free forum anymore.... ![]() SUGGESTION Carry on w t pts sys but between member bros u can only ups pts to show good contribution as encouragement but can not zap pts as disgreed. Note to moderator n Sam Boss if meet unfriendly or off topic remarks...only he can zap t pts SO as member bros who earned more pts really show tat he indeed do more contribution n approve by most of bros here... Just in my small scent of IMHO |

Re: Thank you Sam
Democracy has a price.
Freedom has a price Everything we do to achieve wat we want in life also has a price. Though I've been given PRship in OZ back in 97, I never really followed up on it. Yes, i love the place, stayed in VIC mostly, have 7 offices in that continent now, love the air, weather but there's something i really do not miss. That's being a second class migrant no matter how successful or rich you are. The filth there cant be seen here, the crime there cant exist here, the reliance of the DOLE sys etc, yeah that's for freedom. But if you use a percentage of people living in relative comfort, think sinkapore is still better.

The point that I am trying to get at, is that there are still 30% of more of Singaporeans who disagree with the ruling party. As for your second point, well it is a fact of like, unfortunately, there are many turn-coats who change due to financial or other gains. We have seen that in elections in other big and demoncratic countries else where recently. I do not know which generation that you are in? But, speaking for myself, I was born when Singapore was still under the British rules. In my humble ways, I have witnessed the transformation of Singapore to what she is today. I tend to put things on the balance. The government has indeed done somethings good for the country. One tend to think critically about the country politics when he or she has adequate means to survive. To this end, I think, even though the country is not perfect, it did and it does provide what one needs to survive in Singapore. It is unfortunate that there is never fairness anywhere in this world. Like we have read in "Animal Farm", they are fair, but some are fairer. My 2 cent worth.

However, these were the people I could count on if I needed help. Such people don't exist anymore. The govt planted the seeds of greed and selfishness in decent ordinary folk for their own political gain. Singapore may have advanced materially but it is now a spiritual and moral black hole. All that matters is money. Just take a look at what happens during the en bloc sale process where the decent minority who aren't interested in becoming instant millionaires want nothing more than to live a quiet life in a home they have grown to love over many years. It's nothing short of criminal. ![]()

I think we are in about the same generation. In a society when the going up of the social ladder depends solely on merit, it will become a pressure cooker. I am afraid we are now in this situation. But again, it happens not only n our country. I think we differ in our opinions, which is normal, due to many reasons. But I am glad, and I hope that I have been talking sense. Finally, I must state that I am not a so called Government Man, I am just a simple Pu Tong Ren living in my country. It was nice discussing with you.

Re: Fuck you Sam
Anyone is free to draw the OB line wherever they please. That's what the rep system is for.
If you see a post that you consider off topic, zap the member concerned.. myself included. ![]() 3000 messages are posted daily, you don't expect me or the moderators to read all of them to decide what's off topic and what isn't. The rep system allows ALL members to be part of the process. I shall not respond to the rest of your ramblings partly because I don't understand much of your English and partly because I don't believe you have experienced life in other countries for extended periods. I have lived in many places since my youth. While there are bad eggs everywhere, there is such a thing called the "national psyche"... a unique characteristic that defines a population. The Singapore psyche is best captured by the term "Kiasu". This term wasn't invented by me. It is a label Sinkies have given themselves. It is an extremely accurate description and it is an attitude from which most of Singapore's problems originate.

I can only speak for myself, but if I may offer my humble opinion...
Although I'm only in my late 20s, I think I've experienced enough of life inside and outside of Singapore to reach the conclusion that there's no perfect country in this world, and every country has its own serious flaws...
Heaven/Paradise is certainly NOT a place on earth... I confess that my faith is very weak, but I would like to believe in God and Heaven, and I still have some hope to die and go to Heaven one day, although I certainly don't deserve it because of my sins... In any case, since my mid-20s, I've resigned myself to spending the remainder of my life living and dying in Singapore as I think I would be able to manage my life better in Singapore than in any other country in this world, simply because I was born and brought up in Singapore for most of my life, and Singlish is my native tongue... In English-speaking countries outside Singapore, although I think and speak naturally in English, my HEART is still East Asian and I still prefer East Asian food, so I think that's why I decided to return to live in Singapore... Although there are many unpleasant things, to say the least, in Singapore, I'm able to handle the suffering... But once again, in any case, I have to die one day sooner or later, so I don't think it matters much where I die... |
